We're always looking for motivation. As coaches we hear about lack of motivation a lot from our clients - "I just can't get motivated" "How do you stay motivated?" "I start out great, but I always lose my motivation". But here's the thing, motivation is NOT what will get you where you want to go.
Motivation doesn't get you out of bed early to workout when your whole body is sore, or to the gym after a long, hard day at work. Motivation isn't the thing that will make you choose an hour of income producing activity over an hour of entertainment. Motivation won't help you pack your lunch instead of eating out.
Motivation quickly feigns when you just don't want to do it anymore, or something more fun is in your sight. But DISCIPLINE keeps your goals in focus.
Motivation is a FEELING while discipline is an ACTION.
Discipline sets your alarm in time for a workout. Discipline packs your gym bag in the car so you can hit the gym right after work. Discipline finds things you can give up so that you can schedule the activity that grows your paycheck. Discipline packs your lunch so you can put back a few dollars.
Discipline is remembering what you want MOST, instead of what you want now. Who do you want to be? What do you want your life to look like? Practicing discipline moves you closer to your ideal self, your goals and dreams, every single day.
How do you develop discipline? We suggest using journaling and affirmations every day to keep what you want most in focus. Truly practice making disciplined choices (because practice makes PROGRESS), and CELEBRATE each little win along the way!
